    Factors that increase the risk of sleep apnea are: 

    • Increased weight
    • Smoking
    • Diabetes
    • Tonsillitis (usually in children)
    • Pregnancy
    • Menopause

    The condition is also more likely to develop with age and if there is a history of sleep apnea in the family.
